For 2011, Centurion Boats has launched itself headlong into the hard-core competitive ski market with the all-new Carbon Pro. It has tournament-specific features like an adjustable gun sight for lining up the course and an integrated backboard (that you will hopefully never need). Wear-resistant foam flooring makes the Carbon Pro a working skier’s dream. Aside from the functionality of Centurion’s newest ride, it’s packed with posh as well. Innovative chrome bow accents, a pin-tail transom and a sleek dash design help to visually soften the boat’s form-before-function theme.

“I’ve had that question every year, even the year I got here [2008]: ‘Can this core group get even better?’” Sund said Friday in his first interview since Chicago eliminated the Hawks from the East semifinals May 12.

“And they have, I think, in terms of what it’s ultimately about, the playoffs. I think we were p

Dana Vollmer wins 100 butterfly for U.S. swimming’s first gold medal at worlds

For a decade, Dana Vollmer hung around, never quite emerging, never quite going away. She overcame a heart condition, shoulder tendinitis and back injury, but she could not surpass the very best athletes in her events. She earned a reputation as a reliable relay team member, but not a star, or even a star-in-the-making. She didn’t even qualify for the 2008 Olympic team.

Vollmer, 23, quite literally rode a wave — actually, a bunch of ocean waves in a new training regimen — to her first major individual title. On a ni
