Eight-time Kilkenny All-Ireland winner Michael Kavanagh has become the latest member of Brian Cody’s squad to call time on his inter-country career.
The St Lachtain’s clubman, who enjoyed a stellar career with the Cats, winning eight All-Ireland and 13 Leinster titles, follows in the footsteps of James Fitzpatrick and Eddie Brennan in hanging up him Kilkenny colours.
“It’s never an easy decision, I suppose it’s something that all players have to face up to. I thought about it over the last while and spoke to the people close to me and I’m happy with my decision,” he said on RTи’s Sport At 7.
“I’ve been involved for 14 years with Kilkenny and as I leave I know I gave everything to it while I was there.
“Things have changed since I joined (the Kilkenny panel) in ’98, but the years just kept rolling by and they went very quickly.
