Will Div. I recruiters warm up to Wadsworth’s Snowball?

WADSWORTH, Ohio — National Signing Day for NCAA Division I football is two weeks away.

Surprisingly, Wadsworth senior Jack Snowball, Ohio high school footballs Division I Co-Offensive Player of the Year, still has not received a major-college scholarship offer.

On Tuesday night, prior to the start of the Barberton-Wadsworth boys basketball game, Snowball confirmed that he has received offers from Walsh University and Ashland University. He is preparing to visit NCAA Division II Wayne State in Detroit.

“Akron and Kent have been in,” he said. “Nothing too serious going on there.

“Theyve just come in to visit and talk with coach (Greg) Dennison and weve been in contact with them.”

No offer from either the University of Akron or Kent State University as of yet.

National Signing Day for NCAA Division I football is Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Snowballs understanding is that both programs still have scholarships available.

“(Bowling Green State University) BG came in today (Tuesday),” Snowball said. “They dont have any scholarships available. It would be a walk-on situation if I chose to do that.”

The Medina County single-season rushing record holder at 2,595 yards during 2011, Snowball also has visited Baldwin-Wallace College.

Why have Division I programs resisted making Snowball an offer?

Is it because he suffered two injuries during his junior season and played just two quarters?

Or is it based on some 40-yard dash time?

The fact remains Jack Snowball was a dominant player in the Suburban League. He certainly approached the standard set by Copley graduate and 2005 Ohio Mr. Football Delone Carter, who rushed for 2,788 yards and 49 touchdowns as a senior.

Carter overcame injury to have a successful career at Syracuse University and was a rookie for the Indianapolis Colts in 2011.

Snowball, who is reported to carry a 3.45 GPA and scored a 27 on his ACT, is Medina Countys fourth all-time leading rusher (3,850 yards). He scored 32 total touchdown as a senior (31 rushing) and was not charged with a fumble. He led the Grizzlies (11-2) to the Division I, Region 2 championship game against Toledo Whitmer.
